So, Dave Barnes’ new album, Me and You and the World came out today. I was super-cool, and pre-ordered it about a week and a half ago.
It arrived today. That much I know; I got a package slip in my mailbox today. Here’s the thing, though. The mail clerk in my dorm building has a tendency of delivering package slips AFTER the post office here at school closes.
So now, my whole package is here; the two copies of the album, the making-of DVD, and t-shirt. And I won’t have access to it until tomorrow morning. For thirteen hours, in fact.
Not cool.
Something that is cool, though? Well, Dave is coming down here to New Orleans, and is playing the Parish at the House of Blues next Tuesday. . I’ve been waiting to see him live since I first discovered his music, and that was at least a good year and a half ago now. So I’m incredibly pumped for April 8th.
Something ELSE cool, then? Through MySpace (we’ve had a very love/hate relationship, MySpace and I, and my Facebook addiction hasn’t helped matters, but things such as these help to start the healing), I got in touch with someone who works for Dave’s management, and I’ll be working the merch table at the show next week.
This is really cool. For one, Dave is one of my favorite artists. For reals. Also, I just love getting involved in music any way I can. Whether it be interning at a club (which I’ve done), helping to promote anĀ artist (which I’ve done), or interning at, I don’t know, the Voodoo Music Experience (which, you guessed it, I’ve done). This is what I go to school for. Music industry studies. So now, I’ll be able to get a glimpse into how a tour happens, and it happens to be one of my favorite artists that is doing the touring.
Sweet sweetness.
